A+ or A series engine number guide

Here you can identify your A series or A+ engine type from your engine tag (if still present) if not check out this PAGE for common identifying features

If you have the engine tag still attached to the engine – just in front/below the thermostat housing – or perhaps the original engine number in the log book then the following should help you determine which engine you have. For Metro units, see ‘Engine – Metro identification data’.

  1. Hi Simon
Can you confirm that the engine number i have on a 1967 Austin healey sprite mk 4 1275 ( in the log book but no engine plate ) is possibly genuine or something that has been made up ?
    The number is 8G180EP29087 AD
Any help would be very much appreciated

I have purchased your excellent products in the past and will continue to do so

  2. Good Afternoon. I live in SA and have recently purchased a Mini Moke of questionable age / heritage, which I intend to renovate. The VIN is A-AV-1079716, with Engine 10AMW-TAH627665. According to your table above the engine should be for a Clubman Estate or Austin 110 ?? There is no mention of Mokes above ?? The Moke is Left Hand Drive !! Would you be able to tell me when it was manufactured and where, and perhaps for which country it was intended? Many Thanks.

    1. Hi Chris

Can you send me the engine number and if possible an image of the engine and distributor so I can see the distributor and the clamp?

      Simon

      1. Hi Simon

  3. Hi I have a replacement A+ unit which I fitted for my late father-inlaw in the late 80’s to mid 90’s which was a factory gold/silver seal unit. it is a 1275 and has an a+head and its engine number is LBB10248E208276. Do you have any information about this prefix?

    1. Yes certainly what information is it you wish to obtain. It may be best to call our office on 01527 889 453 to get all of this information handled for you quickly and in one go.
